Accessibility
The Ian Katz Team at Compass wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice control or a keyboard alone.
Our standard
We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the standard published by the World Wide Web Consortium. We test the site against those guidelines and fix what we find, and we will keep doing so as it changes.
What we’ve done
- Every page is built with real headings, landmarks and labelled links and buttons, so it can be navigated with a screen reader.
- Everything can be reached and used with a keyboard, and the element in focus is always visible. A “Skip to content” link is the first thing on every page.
- Text is set to meet WCAG’s colour contrast ratios.
- Pictures that carry information have text descriptions; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
- The contact form labels every field, says which ones are required, and explains any error in words, not colour alone.
- The site follows your device’s “reduce motion” setting, and adapts to any screen size, from a phone to a desktop.
Known limitations
- The practice map: on the map, pins that sit close together can be hard to tap on a small screen. Every testimonial and case study on the map can also be reached one by one with the arrows beside it, which are full-size buttons.
- Other websites and documents: some links lead to pages and PDFs we don’t control — Compass agent profiles, press articles and the New York Department of State’s notice. Their accessibility is up to their publishers.
